Ami Morris
b. 1990
Ami Morris is a Melbourne/Narrm-based artist who nurtures a drive to create through painting, collage techniques, and sculpture. Morris's work is an analysis of her observations of both herself and her environment; infused with a sense of urgency, she uses material practice to explore tensions between chaos, control, and abandonment.
Through rubbing, scraping, and reapplying mineral-rich pigments, Morris’ work reflects the shifting inner workings of the mind, marking fleeting thoughts as each revision traces rhythms and responses. Morris’s process is instinctual and revealing, where the physical process of painting becomes a form of translation—an attempt to articulate something unsayable. Her practice embraces the painterly as a site of struggle, poetics, and transformation, where the act of making is as present as the final image. Capturing movement, urgency, and introspection with a distinctly physical and sensory approach, she positions herself within a lineage of bold, gestural expressionist abstraction—reimagined for the 21st century.
Ami Morris holds a Certificate 4 in Visual Arts from RMIT has exhibited and presented her work locally and internationally, including Mirror, NAP Contemporary, Mildura, VIC
